Exercises and drills

Scheduling, running and recording practice of your procedures.

Having a plan isn't enough on its own. Martyn's Law expects you to practise it, and PROVA tracks that under Exercises.

What counts as an exercise

A walkthrough, a tabletop discussion or a full drill of one of your procedures: Evacuation, Invacuation, Lockdown or Communication. It should involve the people who'd actually act on the day.

Scheduling one

Open the site, go to Exercise Plans and choose the procedure to exercise. Set a date and who's taking part. PROVA gives you a scenario to run, based on your site's plan, and a checklist to work through.

Recording the outcome

After the exercise, record what happened, what worked and what didn't, and any actions arising. Attach photos or notes. The record goes into your evidence automatically.

When they're due

PROVA sets a next exercise date from your last assessment. As it approaches, the related mitigation moves to In Progress and your Premises Controller and BRP receive reminders. Completing the exercise resets the date.

If you miss one

The mitigation shows as overdue on the dashboard and reminders continue until an exercise is recorded. Recording a late one clears it.
